Expectations are typically a combination of our experiences which can be complex, hypocritical, and confusing. When we have negative experiences, many of us want to stay as far away as possible from feeling that way again. In turn, we often head over into the other extreme end to ensure safety. On the opposite end of the spectrum, our positive experiences are those which we'd like to constantly recreate even when it doesn't make sense. This leaves us constantly disappointed and wondering why we can't identify fulfillment. So, where's the happy medium?
Life is about learning, evolving, and expanding. In each of these, an open mind is required so that we can be fully capable of adapting in a variety of situations. The goal is to learn from those negative experiences, so that we can apply that knowledge to creating the ideal situation. Being unrealistic will ultimately leave us disappointed in the end because the emotions tied to the past still require resolution. Find peace, contentment, resolution, and forgiveness for your past so that you may be forward jn accordance with your path.
It's also important for us to be self-aware when setting expectations for our lives. Is this truly something that you want, or is it a societal expectation that hasn't been assessed? Do you really not desire to go down a particular path, or is it insecurities and fears that stop you? If we do not know ourselves, we cannot expect to achieve true happiness. The worst kind of liar to really have around is the one that often lives inside of us. So, ask yourself your truth and move in accordance to that.
